Roman Shades; An Option for Every Point of View

Roman Shades are experiencing a Renaissance in today’s modern home.  And with so many options, why not?  There is a style for every point of view.

The Romantic

Soft billowy folds that gather gently as the shade is raised, make for a decadent look without the fuss of excessive fabric.  If privacy and optimal light control is a goal, consider mounting this shade outside your window jamb.

The Casual Sophisticate

The slouch roman shade shows a more relaxed side of window coverings.  This shade looks best when raised a little, as the appearance of the tails (the side pieces) do not always lay smoothly when lowered all the way.

Hunter Douglas Vignette Roman Shade + Valance

Form and Function unite in Vignette, the Modern Roman Shade from Hunter Douglas.  For this homeowner in Edmond OK, the richly textured fabric for the Vignette in a solid material gave her a wonderful foundation to build upon.  The neutral fabric ties into the stone of the fireplace, and adds warmth without bulk.

Once the foundation was selected,  we made a non functioning valance in our drapery workroom that is reminiscent of a relaxed roman shade, with its soft folds.  The stripes pull out both the wall color and the fireplace and roman shade color.

The Hunter Douglas Vignette Shades use Powerrise motorization with a wall mounted wireless switch (no lost remotes!!), so privacy is just a touch of a button away and pool views are never restricted by slats, cords or anything else!   Since these radio frequency shades run off batteries, no prewire by an electrician is necessary.  This makes them an affordable way to incorporate today’s technology into your home.  Add beauty, energy and light control at the touch of a button into your window treatments.   For more information on the power of motorization, call Grace Allen Blinds.  You can also  visit to browse products and features!

Making a Statement with Roller Shades

It’s always fun when a homeowner finds a fabric that really speaks to them.  The vibrant fabric on these roller shades was the starting point for the window treatment design in this game room.

The first challenge was that the fabric was not available in a wide enough width for one shade on this window.  As a result, we broke the shade up into three cordless shades to match the design of the window.  The factory pattern matched all shades, so when they are lowered, the design flows.    To tie it all together at the top, we added a coordinating red fabric valance.

The door also needed a window covering, and repeating the same pattern felt a bit overwhelming in the small space.  Instead we added a complementary brown and tan stone fabric, done as a cordless roman shade, which played well into the organic feel of the floral.  Again, to make sure it related to the other treatment we used the same fabric on the valance as we did on the windows cornice board.

The result was simple, functional treatments that really gave this space tons of character!
